Lake Kemnader is the blue jewel of the Ruhr region. On summer weekends, it is the visitor magnet par excellence in Bochum and offers both exciting and relaxing ways to pass the time.
As the youngest of six Ruhr reservoirs, Lake Kemnader was completed by the Ruhrverband in 1979 after three years of construction and officially opened to the public with a public festival in September 1980. With its hiking and cycle paths and the asphalted Ruhr-Inline skate route, it is one of the most popular leisure and excursion destinations for Bochum residents and is an ideal meeting place for sailors and surfers. Whether stand-up paddling, inline skating, kitebuggy riding or simply relaxing on the beach - Lake Kemnader combines action and relaxation in one place. The WestUfer windsurfing and stand-up paddle school and the World Of Wind kitebuggy and beach sailing school offer children and adults numerous courses and training sessions on the water.
The covered beach sports and event location blue:beach offers a beach feeling and space to party, eat and let off steam, whatever the weather. Less sporty visitors can take a tour on the MS Kemnade passenger ship or enjoy a cool drink or two on the StrandDeck Kemnade.
