Like the local basketball team Phoenix Hagen, the Ischelandhalle is steeped in history and has risen from the proverbial fire more than once since its opening in 1966. Home to the table tennis club TTC Hagen and the handball club VfL Eintracht Hagen, the hall received a much-needed extension after the Phoenix returned from near financial oblivion to the Bundesliga in 2010. The hall now has around 2,775 seats to add to the famous "Hayloft" - a quirky standing grandstand under the roof trusses that regularly seats around 500 of German basketball's most passionate fans. Phoenix Hagen's supporters will be out in force at the FISU World University Games in Kraft when the "Ische" hosts qualifying matches in the men's and women's basketball competitions.
