Whoever arrives by bus or train in Dortmund will immediately come across the city's landmark visible from afar: the Dortmunder U. The administrative building of the former largest brewery in West Germany, the Dortmunder Union-Brauerei, was developed into a unique cultural centre with international appeal as a lighthouse project in the course of the European Capital of Culture - Ruhr.2010. Even from a distance you can see the "Flying Pictures" of the breathtaking installation by film artist Adolf Winkelmann. Around the roof of the building, film sequences with characteristic landscapes and views of the Ruhr region are shown as a panorama around the clock.
